With its large limestone walls, Cave of Guacharo provides a home to thousands of oilbirds. The cave extends over 10 km (6.2 mi) long and contains impressive rock formations. Designated as Venezuela's first national monument, the cave is now protected by a surrounding park, with the natural forest ecosystem that the oilbird population depends on. Along with the oilbirds, an additional 366 species of birds call the park home. You can enter the cave with a guide; wear tall, waterproof boots if you have them. Because the oilbirds are nocturnal, only natural light is allowed inside the caves.
