1972 Museum honors the survivors and victims of a crash that involved a group of high school rugby players, their friends, and relatives. The story that inspired many books revolves around 16 Uruguayans who endured 72 days in the cold mountains, with no food or proper clothing. See their personal belongings, airplane debris, documents, and photographs from the "Valley of Tears." The 19th-century museum building with balconies made of Carrara marble is a worthwhile architectural attraction in and of itself. The museum tells the history of pain and overcoming of the Uruguayan rugby team that in 1972 fell in the Andes. The museum has a collection of documents, information, passenger belongings and wreckage of the airplane. I leave all my respect to those who perished in the Cordillera and the 16 survivors and all the families involved. I left there with the reflection of which is our Cordillera to be won and where to seek strength. It's worth a visit. And it cost about 10 reais per person.

It was thrilling and brought many reflections about the strength to survive and how much the force of DESTINY commands our lives. The museum has documents, passenger belongings and airplane remains among other items. It is worth the reflection of knowing what your Cordillera is to be won and where you will seek strength. All my respect for those who perished there and the 16 who were rescued with life and their families. It is very worth the visit, and it cost U $12 (about 40 reais)
Great little museum with a comprehensive explanation of every little detail you can imagine relating to the crash and survival events in the Andes in 1972. Whilst exhaustive in it's detailing, it also really helps build a context of the conditions around the event. The founder and curator was on hand to answer questions and elaborate with yet more details (except about eating human flesh...although I didn't ask in case he knew about this too ;)! Ultimately, the museum leaves a lasting, moving impression, largely because of the statement by parents of the victims. Really amazing. I spent a lot longer here than any other museum or gallery I visited in Montevideo.
Wonderful little museum. Fabulous job of telling the story. I was impressed with the artifacts that had been collected for display. Very happy that there were English translations of everything.
