Royal Mews, London

4.3
A vital part of royal life since the reign of Richard II, Royal Mews houses the cars, carriages, and horses used by the monarchy on royal and state occasions. It is considered one of the finest working stables in existence. Marvel at the ornate detail of the carriages, including the particularly lavish Gold State Coach. It has been used at every coronation since that of George IV in 1921. You can also admire the some of the fine livery worn by the Queen’s coachmen, which has remained largely unchanged since Victorian times. Be sure to pick up a headset for a free audio tour outlining the history of the Royal Mews and giving insights into how it operates today. Guided tours are also available during peak tourist season. On arrival, you and your belongings will be subjected to airport-style security checks. Try to bring as little as possible with you to get through the security screening more quickly. Using our custom trip planner, London attractions like Royal Mews can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • This is a small tourist attraction located at Buckingham Palace, which may be overlooked by many. The place houses the Queen’s carriages and offers visitors the chance to view and appreciate the lovely carriages that she and the royal family uses. It offers insight into the designs as well as the history of these carriages as well as the meanings behind each. Recommended!
  • This is a "must" for any London visitor, an absolutely beautiful building/quadrangle housing many historic carriages used by the Royal Family for official visits, marriages & of course the coronation of past Kings, Queens & our current Queen Elizabeth - the stables are still used to stable the horses which pull the carriages including the famous Windsor Greys & Cleveland Bays. The splendour of the historic carriages is incredible & the golden 1762 George III State Coach is simply breathtaking. Tickets are very reasonably priced including concessions & can be converted to a "year pass" so you're able to revisit. Staff very nice & the shop has something for everyone & all pockets. Would highly recommend.
