The Temple of Artemis, Selcuk
Trip Planner: Europe / Turkey / Turkish Aegean Coast / Izmir Province / Selcuk / The Temple of Artemis
A single column and some stone fragments are all that's left of The Temple of Artemis, the site of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The spot where the temple stood was recognized for its sanctity by numerous civilizations, including the Lydians, the Greeks, and the Romans. In fact, it was one of the most popular pilgrimage sites of Antiquity. Legend has it that the Amazons build the earliest temple here, as they worshipped Artemis as their chief deity. Throughout the centuries the temple was destroyed and rebuilt many times before finally being ransacked by the Goths in 268 CE; today, little remains of the original temple. Admission to the site is free. Add The Temple of Artemis to your Selcuk travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Selcuk day trip planning site .

Temple of Artemis was one of the ancient wonders of the world. Today it does not look that way and there's not much to be explored here. Entry is free and no shops are available to provide some great artifacts. There are few hawkers selling books, bracelets and coins. Don't forget to bargain if you want to buy (you might end up saving some bucks). It's close to Isa Bey Cami, St John Basilica and Ephesus Archeological museum. Place is quite famous and by passers can easily help you! Hope you enjoy your visit. Blessings ( Any inquiry is welcomed).
Sad to see that the temple is... Gone. But from this place we can see 3 different important sites. It's a beautiful place to take pictures, especially the greenish puddle on the ground.
