For many, a trip to Khujand happens en route from Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan to the scenic Fann Mountains or Zeravshan Valley.
On the 8th (Sat), explore the activities along Kayrakkum Reservoir, then walk around Somoni park, then learn more about the world around you at Historical Local Lore Museum of Archeology and Fortification, and finally pause for some photo ops at Kamal Khujandi Statue. Little more than a small town at the turn of the 20th century, Dushanbe grew rapidly during the Soviet era and now serves as the national capital and home to nearly 800,000 people.
Take a break from Dushanbe with a short trip to Hisor Fortress in Hisor, about 42 minutes away. Getting from Khujand to Dushanbe by flight takes about an hour. Other options: drive. Traveling from Khujand in June, Dushanbe is little chillier at night with lows of 19°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Wed) to allow enough time to travel to Khorog.
