Despite its small size, Zell am See is a well-visited tourist destination known mostly as a ski resort town, and it serves as an important transportation hub for the region.
Start off your visit on the 22nd (Wed): contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Zell, then stop by Charisma Am Stadtplatz, and then cruise along Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Keep things going the next day: fly down the slopes at Schmittenhohe.

You can drive from Salzburg to Zell am See in 1.5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. In August, daily temperatures in Zell am See can reach 28°C, while at night they dip to 15°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Thu) early enough to go by car to Klagenfurt.

On the 24th (Fri), get into the urban bustle at Altes Rathaus, Alter Platz, browse the fresh offerings at Benediktinermarkt, then grab your bike and head to Europapark, and finally let the kids burn off some steam at Parkbad Krumpendorf.
