High in the Andean foothills, Quito remains one of the world's most photogenic capital cities, featuring two dramatic mountain ranges as its backdrop.
Get in touch with nature at Cotopaxi National Park and Termas de Papallacta. Visit Fundacion Iglesia de la Compania and Basilica del Voto Nacional for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting Quito side-trips: Lagunas De Mojanda (in Tabacundo) and Cuicocha (in Cotacachi). In September, Quito is little chillier than Medellin - with highs of 26°C and lows of 15°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 27th (Fri) so you can travel to Puerto Ayora.

Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Head to Shopping Center Larcomar (Centro Comercial Larcomar) and Galeria Indigofor some retail therapy. Huaca Pucllana and San Pedro Church (Iglesia de San Pedro) will appeal to history buffs. There's much more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco, get engrossed in the history at Museo Larco, admire the local landmark of Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor), and walk around Circuito Magico Del Agua.
