Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.
Apartheid Museum and South African National Museum of Military History are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore hidden gems such as Hector Pieterson Museum and Sandton City Shopping Centre. Go for a jaunt from Johannesburg to Rivonia to see Liliesleaf Farm & Museum about 30 minutes away.
