A physical and cultural bridge between Europe and Asia, the transcontinental city of Istanbul serves as a living reminder of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Sultanahmet District and Hagia Sophia Museum / Church (Ayasofya). You'll get in some beach time at Dalia Beach and Suma Beach. An ideal base camp for exploring the Aegean coastline, Selcuk draws big tourist crowds due to its proximity to the ancient city of Ephesus.
Ancient City of Ephesus and Efes Antik Kenti Tiyatrosu are good opportunities to explore the local culture. For shopping fun, head to Sultan Carpet and Kilim or Celsus Ceramic. There's much more to do: explore the ancient world of Celsus Kutuphanesi, kick back and relax at Ladies Beach, examine the collection at Ephesus Museum, and step into the grandiose world of Keci Kalesi.

You can do a combination of flight and train from Istanbul to Selcuk in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus, flight, and train; or drive. Traveling from Istanbul in December, you will find days in Selcuk are a bit warmer (17°C), and nights are about the same (11°C). Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Thu) so you can drive to Marmaris.

Visiting Iztuzu Beach and Patara Plajı will get you outdoors. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Blue Lagoon (Oludeniz Beach) and Calis Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Fethiye side-trips: Patara Antik Kenti (in Patara) and Patara Ruins (in Antalya). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Downtown Fethiye.
