You can fly from Rome to Prague in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Prepare for a bit cooler weather when traveling from Rome in August: high temperatures in Prague hover around 28°C and lows are around 16°C. Head to Vienna Naschmarkt and Mariahilfer Strassefor plenty of shopping. Get in touch with nature at Schönbrunn Zoo and Donauinsel. Pack the 29th (Wed) with family-friendly diversions at Prater. You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Get some historical perspective at Andrassy Avenue and Dohány Street Synagogue. Fisherman's Bastion and Matthias Church are good opportunities to explore the local culture.
