Considered a cultural, artistic, and architectural jewel of Italy, Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Basilica San Miniato al Monte and Piazza della Signoria. Siena Cathedral and Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Florence side-trips: Leaning Tower of Pisa (in Pisa) and Piazza del Campo (in Siena). There's still lots to do: admire the masterpieces at Uffizi Galleries, get to know the fascinating history of Piazza del Duomo, enjoy breathtaking views from Campanile di Giotto, and take in the spiritual surroundings of The Baptistery of St. John.

You can take a train from Rome to Florence in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or fly. Traveling from Rome in August, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Florence, with lows of 20°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Tue) so you can go by car to Nice.

Well-known for the beautiful views of its famous Promenade des Anglais waterfront, Nice is an ethnically-diverse coastal port city on the French Riviera and the fifth most populated city in France.
Step off the beaten path and head to Villa & Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild and Vieille Ville. Do some cultural sightseeing at Saint-Paul de Vence and Chapelle Des Pénitents Blancs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Nice: Cannes (Lérins Islands & La Croisette). There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at La plage, pause for some serene contemplation at Eglise St Pierre & Paul, stroll through Coco Beach, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Chapelle Saint Hospice.
