You'll find plenty of places to visit near Osaka: Nigatsu-do Temple (in Nara), Kongobu-ji Temple (in Koya-cho) and Rinku Premium Outlets (in Izumisano). The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Kick off your visit on the 25th (Mon): look for gifts at Festa Bld., then view the masterpieces at Myochin Hompo, then contemplate the long history of Yoneda Taishiji Temple, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Kashima Shrine.

Take a train from Kyoto to Himeji in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive. Traveling from Kyoto in June, you will find days in Himeji are a bit cooler (28°C), and nights are about the same (24°C). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Mon) early enough to take a train to Iwakuni.

On the 25th (Mon), take in the spiritual surroundings of Yoko-ji Temple, see the interesting displays at Museum of Merchants Muroya No Sono, and then go for a stroll along the water at Suo-Oshima. Here are some ideas for day two: contemplate the long history of Shokoan, identify plant and animal life at Yamaguchi Flower Land, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fugenji Temple.
