The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Keep things going the next day: explore the historical opulence of Nijo-jo Castle, then see the interesting displays at Kyoto International Manga Museum, and then wander the streets of Gion.

Quito, Ecuador to Kyoto is an approximately 27-hour combination of flight and train. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 14 hours traveling from Quito to Kyoto. While traveling from Quito, expect somewhat warmer days and warmer nights in Kyoto, ranging from highs of 39°C to lows of 29°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Mon) early enough to catch the train to Hatsukaichi.

The city of Hatsukaichi developed from a small market town, frequented by passing samurais during the Edo period.
On the 14th (Tue), pause for some photo ops at Seishin Daitokuhi, tour the pleasant surroundings at Miyajima, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Itsukushima Shrine. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: stop by Miyajima Omotesando Shopping Street, stroll through Katsuragahama Beach, then examine the collection at JMSDF Kure Museum, and finally examine the collection at Yamato Museum.

You can take a train from Kyoto to Hatsukaichi in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. In August, daytime highs in Hatsukaichi are 36°C, while nighttime lows are 29°C. You will leave for Nanjo on the 16th (Thu).

With a long Pacific coastline, Nanjo offers fantastic views of the ocean from high cliffs covered with lush greenery, as well as from its long sandy beaches.
Relax by the water at Aharen Beach and Miibaru Beach. Sefa-Utaki and Okinawa Peace Memorial Park are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore Nanjo's surroundings by going to Uruma (Bios no Oka & Ikei Island Beach Camping Ground) and Tokashiki-jima Island (in Tokashiki-son). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at The Tower of Himeyuri, don't miss a visit to Sankakuiwa, take in the views from Nirai Bridge/Kanai Bridge, and explore the fascinating underground world of Okinawa World Bunka Okoku Gyokusendo.

Do a combination of train, flight, and taxi from Hatsukaichi to Nanjo in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of train, ferry, and taxi. In August, plan for daily highs up to 37°C, and evening lows to 32°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 20th (Mon) so you can travel to Niigata.
