The capital of Sardinia, Cagliari is spread out over seven hills and still bears the marks of its past conquerors, including the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans.
Kick off your visit on the 5th (Wed): look for all kinds of wild species at Saline Conti Vecchi, then pause for some serene contemplation at Parrocchia Collegiata Sant'Anna Cagliari, and then ride a horse along Ranch Paky Barroso. On the next day, do a tasting at Colline del Vento and then trek along Matteo Casula Guida Ambientale Escursionistica.

Crete's largest city, Heraklion remains best known for its proximity to a sprawling Bronze Age archaeological site, once the center of a vanished Minoan civilization.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Heraklion: Reptisland (in Melidoni) and Kazantzakis Museum (in Myrtia).
