Situated where the Swiss, German, and French borders meet, Basel is considered the hub of Dreilandereck, this "three countries corner." Its location makes Basel a center of culture and history, brimming with important theaters and museums.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Etang de la Gruere and Wildegg Castle. Popular historic sites such as Offene Kirche Elisabethen and Ermitage are in your itinerary. Get out of town with these interesting Basel side-trips: Kloster Mariastein (in Metzerlen-Mariastein) and Kirche Liesberg (in Liesberg). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Dom von Arlesheim, get engrossed in the history at Basel Historical Museum - Haus zum Kirschgarten, and see the interesting displays at Pharmaziemuseum Universitat Basel.
