Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Lesedi Cultural Village and Liliesleaf. Step off the beaten path and head to Ukutula Conservation Center and Hector Pieterson Museum. When in Johannesburg, make a side trip to see Safaris in Pretoria, approximately 54 minutes away. The adventure continues: get outside with Outdoor Activities, browse the exhibits of Jo Anke Gallery, view the masterpieces at I was shot in Joburg, and examine the collection at Lindfield Victorian House Museum.

Amsterdam, Holland to Johannesburg is an approximately 14.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight. Situated in a fertile valley between two mountains, the picturesque village of Franschhoek bills itself as a culinary heaven, with renowned wine estates dotting its surroundings.
Kick off your visit on the 15th (Sat): do a tasting at La Bourgogne Farm, then examine the collection at Franschhoek Motor Museum, then do a tasting at Terra Del Capo - Tasting Room, and finally learn about winemaking at Nederburg Wines. On your second day here, stroll through Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve, do a tasting at Eikehof, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Dutch Reform Church, and finally do a tasting at Peter Falke Winery.

Renowned as a premier whale-watching destination, Hermanus grew from a quaint fishing village nestled on Walker Bay.
On the 17th (Mon), enjoy the sand and surf at Kwaaiwater, then see the sky in a new way at SANSA Space Science, then kick back and relax at Kleinmond Beach, and finally kick back and relax at Pringle Bay Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the exciting artwork at Lembu Gallery & Studio, brush up on your military savvy at Soldiers Memorial Museum, then tour the pleasant surroundings at African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary, and finally explore the fascinating underground world of Klipgat Caves.

Escape the urban bustle at Kruger National Park and Wolhuter Wilderness Trail. There's lots more to do: stroll through Idube Game Reserve, get great views at Nkumbe View Site, and contemplate the long history of Masorini Archaeological Site.
