Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Santuario Nossa Senhora dos Remedios and Igreja do Carmo will appeal to history buffs. Igreja e Mosteiro da Santa Cruz and Old Cathedral of Coimbra (Se Velha de Coimbra) are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore Porto's surroundings by going to Lamego (Catedral de Lamego & Quinta Santa Eufemia), Chapel of St Michael (in Coimbra) and Castelo de Montemor o Velho (in Montemor-o-Velho). There's lots more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Capela das Almas, pause for some serene contemplation at Church of Santa Clara (Igreja de Santa Clara), take in panoramic vistas at Torre dos Clerigos, and steep yourself in history at Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral).

Munich, Germany to Porto is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or drive. The time zone difference moving from Central European Time (CET) to Western European Time (WET) is minus 1 hour. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Munich in October: high temperatures in Porto hover around 26°C and lows are around 15°C. On the 8th (Tue), you'll have the morning to explore before heading off to Lisbon.

Albufeira

Along Portugal's southern Algarve region sits Albufeira, a city boasting 20 beaches for visitors to choose from.
Step off the beaten path and head to Lagos Farol da Ponta da Piedade and Vau Beach. Step out of the city life by going to Tres Castelos Beach and Pro Putting Garden. When in Albufeira, make a side trip to see Praia do Vale de Centeanes in Carvoeiro, approximately 36 minutes away. There's lots more to do: get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, take a memorable tour with Tours, identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, and stroll through Praia do Peneco.

Faro

The most well-known city in the Algarve, Faro boasts a cliffside location with popular beaches and a thriving cultural scene.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Old Town Faro and Nucleo Museologico da Villa Romana de Milreu. Take a break from the city and head to Costabeach Tavira Island and Tours and Ilha de Armona. Change things up with a short trip to Fortaleza de Cacela in Vila Nova de Cacela (about 48 minutes away). There's lots more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Faro Cathedral, contemplate the long history of Muralhas de Faro, admire the landmark architecture of Arco da Vila Interpretative Center, and take a memorable tour with Tours.
