With the chance to visit a World Heritage-listed inner city, tours of Paramaribo remain among the most culturally enriching things tourists can do in Suriname.
Step off the beaten path and head to Warappa Kreek and Het Koto Museum. Change things up with these side-trips from Paramaribo: Museum Bakkie (in Reynsdorp), Lelydorp (Neotropical Butterfly Park & Pikin Sranan) and Nieuw Amsterdam (Fort Nieuw Amsterdam, Marienburg suikerfabriek, & more). There's still lots to do: identify plant and animal life at Tafelberg Nature Preserve, contemplate the long history of Fort Zeelandia, make a trip to Waterkant (Riverside Boulevard), and examine the collection at Numismatisch Museum.
