Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Kick off your visit on the 30th (Fri): explore the ancient world of Colosseum, delve into the distant past at Palatine Hill, then make a trip to Roman Forum, then appreciate the extensive heritage of Piazza Navona, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Santa Maria in Trastevere. On the 31st (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: pause for some serene contemplation at Santa Maria della Vittoria, delve into the distant past at Pantheon, and then explore the world behind art at Galleria Borghese.

Canberra, Australia to Rome is an approximately 27-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight; or do a combination of flight and train. Often referred to as the gem of the Amalfi Coast, Positano remains one of southern Italy's most sought-after vacation locales, thanks to its hillside location and picturesque, pastel buildings.
Get a sense of the local culture at Church of Santa Maria Assunta and Miniaci Art Gallery. Visit Fornillo and Spiaggia Grande for some beach relaxation. Next up on the itinerary: enjoy the sand and surf at Bagni d'Arienzo Beach Club, Positano, Head underground at Cave of Smeraldo, take some stellar pictures from Il Sentiero Degli Dei, and stop by Nana' Positano.

You can drive from Rome to Positano in 3.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of train and subway; or take a bus. In August, plan for daily highs up to 36°C, and evening lows to 26°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Praiano.
