First Akmola, then Tselinograd, and now Astana: the city's latest name means "capital," something Astana became in 1998.
Step off the beaten path and head to Nur-Astana Mosque and Saken Seifullin Museum. Popular historic sites such as Assumption Cathedral and Hazret Sultan Mosque are in your itinerary. Step out of Astana to go to Malinovka and see Alzhir, Memorial Museum of Victims of Political Repressions and Totalitarianism, which is approximately 50 minutes away. The adventure continues: make a trip to The Baiterek Tower, brush up on your military savvy at National Museum of Kazakhstan, explore and take pictures at Astana Arena, and stroll around City Park.

Singapore, Singapore to Astana is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. You can also drive. The time zone difference moving from Singapore Time (SGT) to Alma-Ata Time (ALMT) is minus 2 hours. Prepare for colder weather when traveling from Singapore in May: high temperatures in Astana hover around 24°C and lows are around 9°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 30th (Thu) so you can go by car to Borovoe.

You can drive from Borovoe to Karaganda in 5.5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or do a combination of train, bus, and flight.
