Founded in the 10th century as a Viking fishing village, Copenhagen has morphed into the cultural, political, and economic powerhouse of the country.
Step out of the city life by going to Jaegerborg Dyrehave and Eskebjerg Vesterlyng. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Roskilde Cathedral and Church of Our Saviour. Step out of Copenhagen with an excursion to Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde--about 40 minutes away. There's still lots to do: take in the waterfront at Nyhavn, savor a hot drink at National Gallery of Denmark, step into the grandiose world of Amalienborg, and browse the exhibits of Rosenborg Castle.
