Nopparat Thara Beach, Ao Nang

#4 of 12 in Beaches in Krabi Town
Take a stroll along Nopparat Thara Beach, where you can dip your toes in the shallow water or picnic in the shade of coconut trees. Locals know the beach as Klong Haeng, or Dry River, because the water retreats pretty far at low tide, allowing you to walk all the way to the small islets that sit offshore. Though the beach attracts smaller and more diverse crowds than nearby Ao Nang, you will still find plenty of places to stop for a cool drink or a bite to eat. • The beach is right in front of Holiday Express and many other hotels. There are street vendors all along the beach. The sunset are good here.  more »

  • Beautiful beach shallow water, not crowded at all. Popular with friendly locals. Relaxed beach bars / food stalls. Very clean. Chilled vibe. The best sunset in Krabi.
  • My review is based on the high, dry season, so this could be different in wet season. Pretty beach for photography and sunsets. The low tide leaves a really unique texture as the water retreats but only some puddles remain. I haven't quite seen that at other beaches. For most of the day, and as it gets later, the water keeps getting more and more shallow. Not sure what it is early morning, but I imagine this beach is generally one of the most shallow ones. This is nice mostly for young kids/babies and people who just want to sit in shallow water. I walked about 0.5km in, and the water was still up to my thighs and I'm only 153cm (5'1ft) tall. I took out a star because for me, this beach was completely useless for actual swimming. If you walk further in, at some point you will reach boats and I don't think it's super safe to go in that far (at least I didn't see a single person walking that far). The ground is a mix of sand and mud, at spots pure mud, which makes the water far from crystal or blue. I loved the sight and its beauty, but the second time I went during the day to swim (didn't know yet it was that shallow all the time) it, was the last. It was just one big muddy shallow puddle. :D
