St Ananias Chapel, Damascus

3.6
#5 of 7 in Historic Sites in Damascus
One of the oldest chapels in the world, St Ananias Chapel dates back to the Early Christian period. Allegedly, this was the home of Saint Ananias, who, according to the Bible, baptized Saul, later Paul the Apostle. A church near the chapel, found in 1921 during an archaeological excavation, supports the legend. You can still attend mass and pray at the little church, while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
