Monta Rosa Hut, Zermatt

#28 of 36 in Outdoors in Zermatt
Sitting on a glacier-free part of the massive, Monta Rosa Hut is a favorite refuge for hikers and mountaineers. The ultra-modern building--with aluminum surface reflecting the light and the surrounding landscape--resembles a huge rock crystal. Owned by the Swiss Alpine Club and opened in 2009, the innovative building is self-sufficient in energy. The hut lies on the route to the summit and reaching it is an adventure in its own right, offering outstanding views of glaciers and the Alps' highest peaks. • This hut beats all the other huts with ease. The design is absolutely stunning as are the views. Would recommend everyone that's up for the long walk to go see the hut, it's simply amazing.
  • Nice hut but awful staff. It is well known that camping is forbidden inside the border of the park. But outside the border it is absolutely - ALLOWED. But the stuff will argue you that it is forbidden anywhere and will try to convince you to stay in the hut only. Do not let you fool!!!
