Titlis, Engelberg

4.6
#1 of 96 in Winter Sports in Switzerland
At Titlis you'll have year-round access to a world-class ski resort, including Europe's highest suspension bridge. Ride up the mountain on the world's first revolving cable car; the final station, containing several shops and restaurants, serves as the starting point for hikes to the 3,239 m (10,623 ft) summit--the highest in central Switzerland. Walk across the suspension bridge for unobstructed views of the Alpine mountaintops and surrounding glaciers. If you don't feel like tackling the challenging scramble to the very top, take the chair lift to the nearby freestyle park, where you can ski and snowboard year-round. • We were on a Saturday lunchtime on the Titlis. The gondola ride in the best weather was beautiful! The view really only WOW! The restaurant (served) all very friendly and very good food. Our table was at the window. I mention here again the magnificent view. The Gletschtergrotte an experience. The bridge too. It was just a super nice day for us! Now, unfortunately, comes the "but". Unfortunately, mass tourism is extremely much being done here. We felt like we were in a foreign country - even as a tourist, because everything is geared towards them. It was also a pity that some... And the cars are queuing at the park. Well, as I said... we still had a wonderful day! My tip: Go early in the morning. The Swiss price is already high, we would understand it better if we had also had a bit more 'Switzerland' ;-)

  • Beautiful!!! I was lucky to be in a cloudless day... was unforgettable! At the foot of the mountain was 30 degrees, up there 5 degrees! Snow all year.. Wonderful. I took the tour out of Zurich, passing through Lucerne (Linda) and then heading to the title.

  • This place should be one of the most beautiful places in the world to visit. Unfortunately, you’ll never be able to enjoy it while being herded like cattle into overcrowded gondolas. It took close to 2 hours just to get to the top. By then we had only and 11/2 hours before we had to get back in line to get down to catch our bus. Staff is completely overwhelmed by the amount people being shoved through. We had the misfortune to get stuck coming down with the rudest group of people we’ve ever encountered. They continually pushed their way to front of lines as if they were the only ones there that mattered. At one point, someone physically pushed my husband to get him out of the way so they could be first. Absolutely ridiculous! This could be so enjoyable if they would limit the amount tickets sold. The company responsible for these tours obviously care only about profit with no thought whatsoever about the customer experience. This is not worth the time and money. This was, by far, the worst experience in our entire honeymoon.
  • If you're in a confusion regarding what place to visit between Jungfrau and Titlis, then Titlis is definitely the place to be due to its activities. If you want to catch a good view then it is necessary to keep a check of the weather as you won't be able to see a thing up there if it gets cloudy. The food court was also pretty good (especially because it had a heater) and the windows overlooked the snow capped Alps.
