Storkyrkan, Stockholm

4.3
Experience a piece of Stockholm's history through the stunning design, interior, and sculptures of Storkyrkan, an example of Swedish Brick Gothic architecture from the Middle Ages. The oldest church in the old town, it was built in 1279 by the city's founder, Birger Jarl, and houses a number of famous items, such as the 15th-century St. George and the Dragon sculpture and the 16th-century Vädersoltavlan. Situated right next to the royal palace, this site is easy to find. To visit Storkyrkan and other attractions in Stockholm, use our Stockholm vacation builder .

  • One of the few temples that have uniqueness and that is not confused with any other. Great decoration! There are many masterpieces in the cathedral, including the famous oak statue of George the Victorious and Zmia, made in the year 1471. Here are unique canvases, including a copy of the picture "false Sun" (1532), made in 1632 year from the original. It is the oldest image of the capital of Sweden, but, alas, lost. As well as the famous picture "The Stockholm Miracle", which transmits the real astronomical event of the Year 1535: six rings around the sun were diverging in the sides. Semisvecnik height 3.7 meters and an amazing candlestick, made in the shape of the globe.

  • Gikk inn i denne kirken av ren nysjerrighet og angret ikke. For en fantastisk flott bygning. Du blir veldig rolig og nesten litt spirituell inne der. Mye flott å fotografere ogå.  more »

  • One of the most beautiful and detailed churches I've seen. I would definitely recommend visiting and it's near many restaurants and shops if you're looking to have a full day.
  • Worth the admission fee. Really lovely interior. The Vädersolstavlan painting is located here and allows one to view a nice reconstruction of the medieval city.
