Jules Wijdenbosch Bridge, Paramaribo

The Jules Wijdenbosch Bridge, also called Suriname bridge and known locally as Bosje Brug, is a bridge over the Suriname River between the capital city Paramaribo and Meerzorg in the Commewijne District. The bridge is part of the East-West Link, and is named after former president Jules Wijdenbosch. Constructed by Dutch constructor Ballast-Nedam, the bridge has two lanes, is 1504 metres long, and was opened on 20 May 2000.

  • It is a bridge, vital for the east-west traffic. North of the bridge you see the container terminal and the Goslar, German merchant ship that the Germans have deliberately sunk on May 10, 1940. To the south of the bridge are a large shipyard and later on the refinery. The traffic is often quiet or slow to drive.

  • although the building is only some 15 years it seems to be in desperate need of repair. Also why did they not construct a 2 lane bridge in both directions. always congested.  more »
