  • In front of the tomb of the Mahdi is created in 1924 the Museum House of Khalifa. This is a two-storey building with several courtyards, built in the traditional design and style prevailing at that time, mudbricks and clay in the 80 years of the 19th century, which served as the successor to the Mahdi, Caliph Abdallahi Ibn Muhammad. It was also the seat of the administration of the State Mahdi. In the courtyard is a collection of carriages from this period, the remains of the first dome of the tomb of the Mahdi and the first car in Sudan-Special Dogcart from 1905 used by the Governor-General of the Sudan Sir Francis Wingate. In the halls of awaiting gifts from the battle of Omdurman and Khartoum under siege-weapons (including guns and machine guns Maxim), costumes and photos of Khartoum from this period made by the British.

  • It really requires about an hour and a half to go through. There aren't a lot of written facts or much coherency to the narrative, in my opinion. However, I did gain a solid background and I think I would have appreciated it 10x fold if I had done extra reading before going. Very neat artifacts and special notes about Khalifa history and the house uses. If you go to Sudan, you must stop by.
