Take a walk with elephants at Millennium Elephant Foundation, a 6 hectare (15 acre) rescue and rehabilitation center dedicated to caring for these majestic creatures. Captive elephants in Sri Lanka are common--they're often not only used as a sign of wealth and as tourist attractions, but also as labor for the logging industry. This foundation raises awareness about elephant mistreatment and promotes the phasing out of elephant rides and the ban of Howdah elephant chairs. After a stroll with these mighty creatures, help an elephant relax in a refreshing river bath. Volunteers as well as tourists are welcome at the foundation. If you want to ride the elephant and see this beautiful animals this is a place to be! It is made to protect and to cure injured elephants that can't live in wild life. The persons are work here trying to do their best to make animals happy. Also there is an old but very nice house on the hill. The owner of this place still lives in it but you free to come in and look around. More to add, this place has it's own volunteer program to help look after the elephants.
