Teide National Park, Tenerife

#2 of 36 in Nature in Tenerife
A national park that blossomed from the base of a volcano that is also the tallest mountain in Spain, Teide National Park is the most visited national park in the country. Almost three million visitors have been awed by the 3,718 m (12,198 ft) mountain peak. The remarkable terrain in the park is frequently studied by scientists because of its similarity to the planet Mars. Indeed, you'll notice red soil and strange plant life creating a Martian atmosphere along your walking trails. Visit the park's website to plan a hike and check the weather for your outdoor adventure. To plan Tenerife vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.

  • Must visit if you go to Tenerife. It is advisable to buy the tickets for the funicular online and in advance. We didn't do it, as we had to book time and we didn't know if we'd make it in time. When we got to the ticket office, there were no tickets left. We were lucky enough that on the website there was. Poor coordination between the two sales options. And the taquillero didn't bother to tell us to test it on the web. Good thing we came up with... The climb is fast, although the funicular is full and you can't sit down, it's a bit awkward. Once up it's spectacular. We have to be warm, just in case. You are at 3,500 meters and the time can change quickly. Wear a hat or head cap and sunprotection. Boots or at least sneakers. The floor is stone and very uneven. The scenery is spectacular. There are two trails that end in a viewpoint. I recommend the one that ends up in the old peak, another dormant volcanic cone. I also recommend parking your car at one of the viewpoints and enjoying a landscape more typical of Mars than Earth. A marvel

  • Well worth renting a car and driving around this park. Like a different planet at times and resembles the canyons of America. The central piece being the spectacular El Teide volcano which rises even ...  more »
  • One of my favourite places. Amazing views and roads. The cable car to the top of Teide is a must the views are amazing. You ascend to 11663 feet if you want to go to the very top at just over 12000feet you need a permit which I was want to get next time. Just check the cable car is working before arriving/booking. And it is best to get there for 9am if you have a car and are doing it yourself as it gets very busy, full of coach tours and parking fills up very fast.
  • The park scenery is amazing, I we been around volcanoes before, but the infrastructure here, the roads for driving are so good. For someone that has never seen a volcano landscape in person it's even more incredible. It's so easy to get to all the places with a vehicle. I mostly hiked so can say the trails are really well marked and in good condition. I can not talk about others services like the cable car, mountain refuge, hotel as I didn't use them. The viewpoints are also very well prepared with info boards and parking spaces.
