Avala Tower, Belgrade

4.3
Go to the top of Avala Tower for sweeping views of the capital city and the surrounding mountains and plains. On a hill just outside the city, the tower serves as a telecommunication structure and ranks as the tallest in the Balkan region. Upon its construction in 1961, only four self-supporting buildings in the world stood taller. After its destruction in the 1999 NATO bombing, the government and the residents of Serbia financed reconstruction through voluntary donations. Today it stands 204.5 m (671 ft), with 38 floors. Take the elevator up to access the cafe and observation deck at the top. On a clear day, one can see up to 100 km (60 mi) in the distance. Purchase tickets upon arrival, and consider combining your visit with a walk, hike, or picnic in the surrounding area.
