Mount Arafat or Mount Arafah is a granite hill east of Makkah in the plain of Arafat. Arafat is a plain about 20km southeast of Makkah. Mount Arafat reaches about 70m in height and is also known as the Mount of Mercy . According to Islamic tradition, the hill is the place where the Islamic prophet Muhammed stood and delivered the Farewell Sermon to the Muslims who had accompanied him for the Hajj towards the end of his life. Muslims also say that it is also the place where the Adam and Eve landed on earth after falling from Heaven. It is the place where Adam was forgiven, hence it is also known as Jabl-ar-Rahmah . A pillar is erected to show the place where the aforementioned took place.
On the 9th of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah pilgrims go to Arafat from Mina, for the most important part of the Hajj. The Khutbah of Hajj is narrated and Zuhr prayer and Asr prayer are prayed together. The pilgrims spend the whole day on the mountain to supplicate to Allah to forgive their sins and to pray for personal strength in the future.

  • The Mountain of Mercy is a pity for the souls. You can climb to the top easily and remember how the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stood preaching to people in his farewell sermon.

  • Wonderful to climb Mt Arafat on any day other than the proper hajj days. It’s more convenient, relaxing and not so many crowding hajjis or persons going up and down the jabal Arafat.  more »

  • Its one of the most historic places in makkah. Its lovely to visit and reminisce. If you don't mind the crowd, its nice to sit high on top and have a picnic.
  • In its history, this is the Arafah hill, meeting of Adam and Eve when on earth. For now, this place has always been a visit for Muslims during the Umrah and the peak of the Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The hill place is not too tall, rocky and must be careful when climbing. Apart from that this place became history and the important moment of the test for Prophet Ibrahim received the order to slay his son Ismail. Really impressive.
