Mamayev Kurgan, Volgograd

4.9
The place where the Soviet army defeated Nazi Germany on the Eastern Front is marked by a number of memorial structures known as Mamayev Kurgan. This collection of monuments was constructed between 1959 and 1967 to honor the military men who fought and defeated Hitler's army in the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II. In addition to touring the site and viewing these memorial pieces, be sure to take in views of the city from the foot of the Motherland statue, an allegorical work by Yevgeny Vuchetich. The historical outdoor exhibitions and underground eternal flame are well worth a trip up the hill. • Were with the family on May 3-5, it is necessary to take a tour, in detail told each step, about each feat, about each monument. It is better to take a bottle of water at the foot of the expensive. The entrance is free and 24/7. In the daytime there is a change of the guard. In the evening, excellent lighting and illumination.

  • For a patriotic walk. Children may not yet understand, but the head will settle and understanding will come. Very nice, modest and well-kept. This is a place to visit!

  • Mamayev Kurgan is a dominant height overlooking the city of Volgograd(formerly Stalingrad) in Southern Russia. The name in Russian means "tumulus of Mamai".The formation is dominated by a memorial complex commemorating the Battle of Stalingrad(August 1942 to February 1943). The battle, a hard-fought Soviet victory over Axis forces on the Eastern Front of World War II, turned into one of the bloodiest battles in human history. At the time of its installation in 1967 the statue named The Motherland Calls on Mamayev Kurgan formed the largest free-standing sculpture in the world as of 2016 it is the tallest sculpture of a woman in the world.
  • This is a must visit place to feel the history with your skin. It is better to visit this historic place in late spring or in summer cause it will look much more beautiful due to all fointains being open. Make sure you got your camera with you.
