The Kunstkamera, St. Petersburg

3.7
Examine one of the world's largest collections of ethnographic artifacts at The Kunstkamera. The museum features nearly 2 million ethnographic, anthropological, and archaeological items, and reflects the diversity of traditional cultures in the Old and New World. Peter the Great founded the museum in the first half of the 18th century as a typical cabinet of curiosities dedicated to preserving "natural and human curiosities and rarities." Explore the Tsar's personal collection, featuring stuffed animals, minerals, model ships, tools, astronomical instruments, and a variety of human and animal fetuses with anatomical deficiencies. A part of the museum is dedicated to Mikhail Lomonosov, founder of Moscow State University, a polymath, historian, and leading poet of the era. • It is better to buy tickets online and not to stand in line at the cashier. It is not necessary to print them-it is enough to show on phone. From all museum only one hall with "freaks in Banks", the rest are filled with objects of different nations-ornaments, clothes, household utensils. And it is better to take a guide or join a tour. Not impressed enough to recommend.

  • He had received information from this museum initiated by Peter the Great, both demonstration of the world cultures for that moment, as a part dedicated to anatomical themes and embryology, standing out prepared with various congenital diseases, is Interesting to see, and, to be made of the variety of exposed knowledge, it doesn't take too long and worth it.

  • Interesting museum. 90% of the exhibition it's about cultures around the globe. The most iconic part of the museum ("the monsters exhibition") it's a tiny part of it. If you already went to the important museums and still have time.. go.. if not, don't waste time.
  • Wonderful Museum. As I know , The King of Saint Petersburg Peter the great gave order to there ruling officials to visit different countries and come back with their cultural things. So, Here you can enjoy Latin American , African , Indian , Chinese , Japanese and too many different countries cultural things and special attraction is Scientific Medical Section. Really interesting
