Kazan Cathedral, St. Petersburg

4.7
Modeled after one of the Vatican's major landmarks, Kazan Cathedral houses a world-famous icon of Our Lady of Kazan, one of the most significant religious images of Orthodox Christianity. Built in the early years of the 19th century, the classically designed building boasts a massive dome, dominating this part of the city from a height of some 80 m (260 ft). The lavishly decorated cathedral features numerous columns, sculptures, and icons, created by some of the biggest names in Russian art. Famed sculptor Boris Orlovsky designed the bronze statues of the Napoleonic War heroes Barclay de Tolly and Mikhail Kutuzov, whose remains lie interred inside the cathedral. • The church is located in the city center, the exterior is magnificent, each column is polished by the whole giant stone head, the green roof in this city is more special, there is a statue of the wall, the roof is very high, along the wall and pillars up.

  • I had stayed near Kazan Cathedral, so I was able to view the Kazan Cathedral when I came back. Golden Week has been blessed with a fine weather, and the appearance of holding the blue sky was spectacular, as well as shining in the sun, both were beautiful when lit up at night. Unlike other tourism-specific churches and cathedrals, it's free to go, but it's a place where the Orthodox believers kissed the icons and kept their prayers as a religious institution. Therefore, I was told that it was forbidden to shoot in the temple, but I was very disappointed with the tourists (Asian and European) who photographed without any care. There were some Japanese tourists, but it would not be sad if the tourists who were not related to the funeral at the Shinto wedding ceremony and the temple-San came stomp and took pictures and videos for a while. I think it's the same thing. Take care. The person of the attendant who wore the hood of the same color was careful of the tourist of the behavior that the candle stand was swept, and the sight which was flagrant, too, although it did not understand whether it was an attached monastery or the Women's Association. Some of them are practicing silent/silent lines, and those who are careful in their gestures without speaking out. It was dim, and it was extra solemn while the illumination was dropped.

  • A truly spectacular piece of architectural beauty. The building is extremely chic and authentic, and it is one sight not to be missed out on on any visit to St. Petersburg. Try not to take pictures of things that the nuns/priests tell you.
  • Excellent peace of architecture. Beautiful fountain outside in the front where we can sit and admire its beauty .. lovely place plus the entry is free so a must visit when you are in town
