Lake Onega is a lake in the north-west European part of Russia, located on the territory of Republic of Karelia, Leningrad Oblast and Vologda Oblast. It belongs to the basin of the Baltic Sea, Atlantic Ocean, and is the second largest lake in Europe after Lake Ladoga. The lake is fed by about 50 rivers and is drained by the Svir River.
There are about 1,650 islands on the lake. They include Kizhi, which hosts a historical complex of 89 orthodox wooden churches and other wooden constructions of 15th–20th centuries. The complex includes a UNESCO World Heritage site Kizhi Pogost. Eastern shores of the lake contain about 1200 petroglyphs (rock engravings) dated to 4th–2nd millennia BC. The major cities on the lake are Petrozavodsk, Kondopoga and Medvezhyegorsk.

  • Sailing on Lake Onega en route to the island of Kiji, seems to dream. The vastness of the landscape is such that it seems to be the sea, since from the boat you can see the banks. On a beautiful summer's evening, the sun never sets (almost) never turns red and the sky above the horizon, is a sight to enjoy while sipping a glass of vodka. The island of Kiji, half of our navigation, represents another significant point of historical and cultural interest, being classified as a Unesco World Heritage site. Everything, by virtue of the two churches of the 18th century, entirely built of wood, that are found there, with the addition of a windmill, pure wood, much more recent construction (1921). This architecture can be considered a Unesco World Heritage site is a little smile, thinking how it exists in other European countries, but it is worth a trip ...

  • Many will not write, although writing is full of trolling at Onega. So ... were we to 30.04 08.05, well in the year 2016 and the weather was.
