Learn about Hindu funereal traditions during a visit to The Crematoria, the riverside cremation area of a famous Hindu temple. The traditional ceremony sees the family of the deceased build a funeral pyre next to the river, sprinkle it with holy water, and circle the body three times, walking counter-clockwise. The area is only open to those of Hindu faith. Other visitors can see the cremation area from the opposite bank of the river. • Of course, a visit to the crematorium was not lacking. After paying R1000 pp you can get the site up. Because we have already been in Varanasi (India) It was perhaps that we had our expectations too high. In itself it was very nice to see how the burns take place, however we found the atmosphere significantly less than there.
