Casemates du Bock, Luxembourg City

4.2
Part of a World Heritage Site, Casemates du Bock once played a key role in a network of defensive underground passages. Originally stretching for over 20 km (12.5 mi), the honeycombed passageways housed garrisons of soldiers defending the city, along with their horses, weapons, and other essential equipment. Constructed in the mid-18th century, the casemates provided a shelter for nearly 40,000 locals during World War II. After exploring the city's underground history, enjoy sweeping views from the top of the casements. Expect lots of stairs and prepare for your walk by wearing a pair of comfortable shoes. • Beautiful views of the city. Great place for amazing photos. You can park in the theater parking garage and walk for few minutes ( and hour or 2 for 4 euros). There is a part outside that is free and if you want to go inside it’s 7 euros for adults and 3,5 for kids from 3 (free for younger). Many maze looking tunnels with each having a view of the city. Some of them still have the old cannons too. Make sure you have a good camera! Be aware that if kids run around they will definitely trip as floors are still original and not flat.
  • It was an amazing experience and worth the visit. We even got the coin souvenir and it was so pretty and shiny. I definitely recommend this to visit if you are in luxembourg because this is the gateway to learn more about their past and interesting stories. Be careful though and do not go to the stairs down below because it gets dark over there and its scary.
