  • One of the oldest in Eastern Europe (1579). Vilnius University presents us with a unique opportunity in one place to see the best features of various architectural styles-Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism. 13 internal courtyards, arcades and galleries, one of the oldest libraries, opened its doors before the first visitor back in 1570. And during this time it has accumulated more than 5 mln. Printed editions and ancient manuscripts, which holds one of the two world-famous copies of the first Lithuanian book-The original "Catechism" M. Majvydas. This is only part of what you will see behind the doors of the university, leading its history with the XVII.

  • Husband and I were surprised to realize that you have to pay to visit the university. I have never seen that anywhere and I really don’t think that is good practice. As an institution of learning and sharing knowledge, it should be open to everyone! Sure, the bell tower has a distinct function to see the city- so I would be ok to pay for that. In either case, though it was not much, we did not pay out of principle to go inside.
  • Place is nice, can compare to others😀
