St. Peter's Church, Riga

4.1
St. Peter's Church represents one of the oldest and most valuable monuments of medieval architecture in the Baltic states. This Lutheran church, part of the Old Town's historic center, is listed as a World Heritage Site. Nazi Germans bombed the church during World War II, and the Soviets completed the destruction after the war. It wasn't rebuilt until 1983. The church hall houses exhibits and concerts, and the observation deck at the top of the tower offers a view of the entire city. • The Church of St. Peter, built in 1209, was enlarged in the early 15TH century. The current tower was completed in 1746. The church was the subject of several restoros, the latter of which in 1973. At that time an elevator was installed, with a height of 70 meters, which facilitates access to the tower..

  • This church can not be noticed, from the tower of the steeple could have seen the view of the city but being winter days with snow, unfortunately we had to give up.

  • What a disappointing visit to this landmark church. I could not believe how aggressively rude the staff were. It was actually quite bizarre how nasty they were, especially within a place of worship. I was fully prepared to pay 9 EUR to enter, but the conduct of the staff towards the visitors helped make my decision to leave without paying that extortionate price quite easy. 2 stars for a beautiful building and those who originally constructed it, however I'd strongly recommend saving your money, crossing the river, and taking in an incredible cityscape view from the Radisson. Enjoy from the outside.
  • The tower of the Church still dominates the sky of the old town. The church still keeps its fundamental medieval Gothic appearance with some parts remodelled during late Middle Ages and the Modern history. A tall, robust, splendid interior is surrounded by altars and remains of its fascinating history.
