Park Named After Panfilov’s 28 Guardsmen, Almaty

4.5
#3 of 89 in Parks in Kazakhstan
Centering around a dramatic monument, Park Named After Panfilov’s 28 Guardsmen commemorates an infantry unit of 28 soldiers who bravely fought the Nazis near Moscow during World War II. Lead by Ivan Panfilov, the guardsmen from all 15 Soviet republics significantly delayed the advance of German soldiers and tanks, despite a high number of casualties. Notice the black monument's eternal flame, burning for the fallen troops of both the Russian Civil War and the Great Patriotic War. Relax on the benches and enjoy the park's verdant ambience. Nearby attractions include a museum of musical instruments and a cathedral made entirely of wood. • It is a square with a colorful Zenkov church. There are many statues, monuments and even a museum. A lot of families and couples were relaxing on Saturdays. I think that it is a visit place where it is possible to know the culture of Almaty efficiently.

  • We will not dare to walk in the park on May 9. We're afraid my kids and I're going to get crushed. But on May 10, you can safely go. And not only is it possible, but it is also necessary. We need to remind the children of what happened more than 70 years ago. What their pro-grandparents and grandmothers went through. That this should not happen again. Here you can lay flowers for ancestors or play on guns. Or you can go to the museum of musical instruments. (c) Valeriy Karibzhanov 2019
