See a Celtic farmstead at Craggaunowen, a carefully reconstructed lakeside village built next to a castle. An open-air museum with actors, this ring fort and early farmstead recreates life in the Bronze Age, while the castle dates back to around 1550. You'll see lots of traditional farming tools and techniques for making weapons. Check out the Brendan Boat, a representation of a vessel used by Saint Brendan of Clonfert to sail to Greenland in the 6th century. The whole complex is very well maintained and offers a wide range of insights into the past. As the highlight of today (it was Bankholiday in Ireland) there were life demonstrations with very realistic struggles, which especially the children present had a lot of fun. The performers were heartfelt on the matter. I cannot say whether these demonstrations will take place on normal working days. But it's always worth a visit. Historic and fun for all the family. Great trails and very informative. Met a lovely man at the Crannog who told us all about the living and activities of the people who lived along with info on their weapons and animals. Great day out.
Place is fantastic and completely underrated. I cannot say enough about it. Beautiful, interesting and the people are so nice!!!
