Nagsh-e Rostam, Persepolis

Stand in awe at the tombs of four ancient kings of Persia, carved into the side of a mountain, at Nagsh-e Rostam. Walk around the remains of one of the oldest cities in the area, discovered in 1930 by a group of archaeologists, and admire the burial site. The only thing more impressive than the tombs themselves are the reliefs that decorate the surroundings; the oldest allegedly dates back to the beginning of the second millenium BCE. Look carefully, and you'll see carvings of faces in the mountain, still visible after all this time. • A few kilometers from Persepolis ... (already the soul was excited by the experience!) there is this other wonderful archaeological site, the tombs of other Persian kings. There is little to say and to understand ... there is only to see admire and make just that period of history and civilization that gave birth and grow the Mediterranean culture.

  • You won't be out of place in knee length boots and a whip ala Harrison Ford style walking amongst the grand relics. Easy access and definitely worth taking those steps back in time. Info in English translation a welcome inclusion.
  • That's a wonderful place
