Padmanabhapuram Palace, Thuckalay

Located in Padmanabhapuram Fort, Padmanabhapuram Palace was constructed in the 17th century by the ruler of Venad. The sprawling Kerala architecture holds rooms like the king's council chamber, the performance hall, and even a four-story mansion in the center of the complex. Head straight for the king's council chamber, which impresses with its beautiful lattice work and polished, dark floor composed of burnt coconut shells, egg whites, and other surprising materials. Also look for the queen mother's palace, the oldest structure in the entire complex. Tour guides offer detailed walkthroughs of the attraction in English. • Once the capital of Travancore. Very beautiful place, beauty of nature comes before our eyes there, lot of historical things. A really good historic place. The architecture is beautiful. It is surprising how most of it is still intact considering how old it is. The view behind is amazing with hills. The place is so clean and green, you start feeling jealous of those people who lived at that place a few hundred years ago. Overall, a great experience. A piece of history that is well maintained by the authorities. Still has all the old architecture intact and we can learn about the construction and old relics from there. Does come with beautiful views with all those greenery.
  • Awesome Palace, you have to get there before 12.30 pm after that palace closes for lunch break and opens after 2pm. Guides inside are helpful and Great collection of wooden souvenirs outside shops.
