Milatos Cave, Milatos

#6 of 18 in Nature in Lasithi Prefecture
Explore Milatos Cave, best known as the center of an 1823 battle between the brave local rebels of Milatos and the invading Turkish army, which ended tragically. You'll need a flashlight to explore the pitch-black caves, and many recommended taking transport to the site as the walk from the village is quite long. Within the cave, look for a small church built in 1935: it sits near a large circular opening revealing some spectacular views of the surrounding area, so bring along a camera! For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Milatos holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Milatos Cave and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The very beautiful Milatos Cave is worth a visit. In the cave there is no chapel and bones. Admission and parking is free. From the parking lot you walk about 600m to the cave. You should take a flashlight with you, it's tight and dark. For us it was a very nice experience and a top destination away from the tourist flows, therefore a clear recommendation!

  • Something wonderful-we had the opportunity after a visit to the route to advertise what we saw in Milatos Polakom accidentally after a few days we met at the airport returning home. A visit to the cave has been heavily struck from the hot impressions.

  • The entrance is a bit hard to find. When you are in a big curve with Cars Parking in it you are right. Leave your car there and go back to the house with the stone sign. Then you can get to the cave via the stone stairs and a walk of a couple of minutes over a way made of natural stones which is not flat.
  • Excellent view. Cave although not functioning
