Delphi Archaeological Museum, Delphi

4.7
Delphi Archaeological Museum houses ancient artifacts discovered at the Oracle of Delphi, spanning from the shrine's founding in the 18th century BC, to its decline in Late Antiquity. The fourteen exhibit rooms feature sculptures, statues, and other objects that were offered to the Oracle, as well as fragments from the sacred building. As you explore the museum, you'll learn about the Oracle's political, religious, and artistic significance throughout the ages. The museum has plenty of benches if you want to pause and consider some of the exceptional relics. Once you've finished taking in the exhibits, recharge with a cup of coffee from the on-site cafeteria. • It would be a shame to visit the archaeological site without stopping at the Museum. This one presents in an original way the result of excavations, interactive screens to visualize the site at the time. If this precision can help some young people to love museums... Very nice Museum, easy access for people with reduced mobility.

  • Well worth the low-season €6 entry fee which allows you access to this museum and the main archaeological site. The pillar-topping Sphinx and the Charioteer are the obvious highlights but there is so much else of interest - the huge bronze shields in the display cases as you walk in to the museum proper and the statue of the Philosopher amongst many other things.
  • A superb museum complements the unique site. A single visit is not enough; two days is ideal. I suggest arriving at the site as it opens, go straight to the top and work your way down, by which time the crowds will be everywhere. Take a break (bring your picnic) - you can leave the main site, visit the lower site (no ticket) and come back to the museum later on when it isn’t jammed full of coachloads of folk being lectured to. Your ticket gives one entry to the site and one entry to the museum.
