A 19th-century palace, Schloss Hohenschwangau served as the childhood home of King Ludwig II. The castle was built on the site of a ruined fortress and quickly became a favorite hunting residence for the royal family. The interior of the palace contains numerous grand halls. They've largely been left in the state the royals would have enjoyed, with ornate period furniture and lavish wall murals. Many sections of the castle are open to visitors, but you need to make prior arrangements for a guided tour. You can arrive for your tour in royal style: A horse carriage starts at the ticket office in the village below the palace. Check online for tour options. The guided tour takes place with Audioguide. Fast enough to reach from the ticket office, it also offers a small panoramic view of the valley. Too bad that inside you can not take pictures (strange for a castle).
Love castle. Worth a visit. I would advise people to book tickets in advance. Also ensure there is sufficient time to walk as the walk to the castle is about 40 minutes. There is a great place to drink beer and eat very close to the castle. I believe they also have rooms.
A nice pretty castle worth visiting. A guided tour will take about 30 min, a walk up to the castle about 20-30 if not to hurry. Pretty views from the top. Note that pictures are not allowed inside the castles here. Also you'll have a ticket with a certain time, it will be accepted with the scanning device only when it hits that time. It is better not to be late for the tour.
