Tierpark Hagenbeck, Hamburg

4.5
Discover more than 200 species of wild animals at Tierpark Hagenbeck. As the first of its kind to use open enclosures, this landmark zoo allows visitors to view animals in nearly natural environments. Get up close to the free-roaming lions and chimpanzees. Carry along some apples or carrots so you can feed the elephants. Then explore the world of underwater animals at the four-level aquarium. • It's a beautiful zoo. It feels like you're next to animals. You can have an elephant with your hand to feed) A great variety. I liked the aquarium under polar bears, sea lions, etc. At the entrance, take a map of the zoo, it indicates the feeding time. You'll be aware of it.

  • Worth seeing zoo in the middle of a big city, where a visiting day is hardly enough to process the whole variety of offers. Positive is the historical old tree population, coupled with extensive sights of animals in species-appropriately landscaped departments. A visit to the tropical aquarium one should not bypass, we were thrilled. For us it was a great day in a wonderful zoo. We'll be back.

  • A wonderful zoo in Hamburg, it costs around €20 per adult and around €15 for kids over 4yrs old. The zoo contains loads of animals from elephants to lions and everything in between. It's the first zoo of its kind not to use cages but rather low barriers with the animals separated by water or lower ground. They also have the option to pay extra for karts with wheels that you can use to carry/pull kids.
  • Went there for the first time in 20 years yesterday. Born and raised in Hamburg but never took the time to visit Hagenbeck since I moved away. Was amazed at the care and love that went into this place. It was always nice (in my childhood memories) but now as a Biologist I can appreciate the place in different ways. Nicely kept, clean, friendly atmosphere. Plenty and varied animals with pretty enclosures. Zoos remain controversial for many but the immense value of public outreach for wildlife conservation is undeniable - provided it is done right. This zoo is a prime example of it being done right. Highly recommended. We spent 8 hours there, included the aquarium/tropics house (which is downright fantastic).
