Mauermuseum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin

2.3
Mauermuseum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie was German's only Cold War border crossing that permitted foreigners to pass through between 1961 and 1990. Though it once represented the separation of East and West Germany, this spot is now just one of the city's many tourist attractions. The checkpoint achieved mythological status because residents of the city were not allowed to use it. Look for the famous "You Are Now Leaving the American Sector" sign. This iconic marker of the past is one of the most photographed spots in the city. Nearby, you can explore the exhibits of a private museum dedicated to the checkpoint and various Berlin Wall memorabilia. • I understand the historical significance of the Cold War landmark, however, it is a much hyped up spectacle that disappoints based off the size and appearance relative to its enormous symbolic scope o...  more »
  • Going to Berlin and not seeing this site is impossible, but, to be sure it's nothing to it. Rebuilt with fake military (each city has its centurions!!!), with a shop that offers "Authentic" fragments of wall (how long was this wall, since every souvenir shop in Berlin offers fragments of wall), this site is just a tourist trap, among other Crowded. It's fine, too...

  • History lovers should come to this place. However the arrangement of the exhibit is kinda all over the place and hard to track the continuity of the history event. Audio guide is somewhat helpful but not that much. The museum should employ a staff to better explain of the event as accord to the history of Berlin
  • The museum is a mess! Tiny packed rooms, lots of display boards barely readable due to small fonts, no chronological (or any sort of) organization. The overall conservation is also very poor - walls are dirty, display boards are peeling of or have turned yellow, electric wiring is visible everywhere. Not at all worth the expensive entrance fee. Wasn’t for the true historic location, it could easily be considered a ripoff.
