  • Take a taxi first (cheap in Tbilisi. Even cheaper if you use the Bolt or Yandex apps) which will take you to the funicular station whose façade recalls the styles of Central Asia. The "Holy Mountain" is the meaning of Mtatsminda. This is Father David's church. Around this church: a cemetery, Georgian national pantheon, composed mainly of men with a predominance of poets, men of letters, historians and other intellectuals. To the left of the church is the tomb of Ékateriné Giorgis asuli Geladzé, wife of Vissarion Djougachvili; in other words, the mother of Joseph Stalin, the Georgian demon who with his companion Beria (also Georgian) practiced mass deportations, expropriations, false trials and assassinations. No inscription outside of what is written on his monument in Georgian makes it possible to understand who it is. This woman is given the following dialogue with her son (who had been a seminarian and did not go to his funeral): " - Ekateriné: What are you doing now, Joseph? - Stalin: Do you remember the Tsar? - Ekateriné: Yes. - Stalin: Well, I'm like the Tsar. - Ekateriné: You would have been better off being a priest..."
